2009 Diaper Drive

2009 Diaper Drive

Our Diaper Drive was on the news! Here is the link to the video from the segment on Better Portland.

Did you know that food stamps may not be used to purchase diapers?  Did you know that WIC does not cover assistance with diapers?  I recently became aware of these facts myself and did some research to find out where needy families in our area can get diaper assistance.  I contacted many resource centers and this is what I found.

Northwest Children's Outreach provides diapers and other items (clothing,  basic needs, etc) to needy children.  Every other agency I talked to also received diapers from Northwest Children's Outreach for distribution.  In fact, Northwest Children' Outreach supports 140 agencies in Oregon and Washington.  This organization is helping so many of our local families in need, but their requests for assistance are up 50% from last year.

After bringing this information to the North Beaverton MOMS Club we decided to run a Diaper Drive Contest to benefit Northwest Children's Outreach.  Here's how it works.

North Beaverton MOMS Club presents:
Diaper Drive Contest 2009

Kickoff Event:  Thursday, October 8th, 9:30am at the Village Baptist Church
located on Murray just south of Highway  26. Send as many people from your chapter as possible to mingle with other chapters and learn more about this exciting service project.

The chapter that raises the most diapers per member wins!
Diapers can be donated in full or partial packages clearly marked with your chapter's name.  If members wish to contribute monetary contributions, please make checks payable to Northwest Children's Outreach.  Monetary contributions will credit toward your number of diapers raised at 11 cents per diaper.

Diapers can be delivered to these locations during regular business hours:
My Kidz World - 16305 NW Cornell Rd, Beaverton, OR  97006
Me Too Cafe - 16755 SW Baseline Rd, Beaverton, OR 97006

Monetary contributions made payable to Northwest Children's Outreach can be sent to:
Diaper Drive Project
C/O North Beaverton MOMS Club
PO Box 1135
Beaverton, OR  97075

All contributions must be received by Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 to count toward this contest.

The Winning Chapter
The chapter that raises the most diapers per chapter member (for example, if a chapter has 20 members and raises 200 diapers they would be credited 200/20=10 points.  Monetary contributions are credited toward the contest total at 11 cents per diaper (the cost for NWCO to purchase diapers in bulk).

Prizes
Now for the good stuff.  The winner of our contest will receive some great prizes.  Me Too will be hosting a contest winners celebration.

We also have a basket of prizes including contributions from Munchkin Playland and Washington Square Mall.  If that wasn't enough, North Beaverton MOMS Club will sweeten the pot by contributing $200 to the charity of your chapter's choice.

So let's get going and raise some diapers for Northwest Children's Outreach!  Please contact us and let me know if your chapter will join us in our mission to assist NWCO provide diapers to needy families.
